THRIFT STORE FINDS
I got my love of pawnshops, flea markets, and thrift stores from my father who loved to rummage through boxes of junk until he found a special treasure. I usually take time to stop into my favorite thrift store on my way to or from work every couple of weeks to pick over the inventory hoping to find at least one quality item.
I noticed a pair of boots while I was in one day but didn’t give them a second look for the sake of time. But once I left I immediately regretted the decision and decided to go back for a second look the next day.
I’m sure glad I did because the boots were still there and upon closer examination I found that they were a pair of vintage Justin Cowboy Boots, made of exotic leather and the exact size I wear. A pretty good steal for only $35!
When I took them to the counter to pay for these bad boys the owner told me that she wanted to be up front with me and that she didn’t know what kind of leather this was or even if it was leather. I politely told her that I would also be upfront with her and that the leather was actually an exotic lizard skin and that her $35 was a pretty low price for such a quality pair of boots.
When I got home I decided to e-mail Justin Boot Company to see if they still had any records on this style of boot. When I heard back from Justin I was informed that these were mink colored iguana skin boots originally manufactured between 1987 and 1994 with a retail price of $558. Needless to say I’m excited to add these bad boys to my collection!
